Monique Muse Dodd (they/them) is a Brooklyn-based New Media Artist and Independent Curator. Their work explores how Blackness exists in the near future, borrowing from personal and collective histories, both actual and imagined. Obsessed with how America consumes Black and Queer culture Muse interrogates how they contribute to the further commodification of these identities. Muse refashions histories in ways that uplift or even shift accepted realities.
Muse holds a BA in Film Production from Howard University and studied at the Film Academy in Prague. They are the 2019 DCAC Curatorial Apprentice, and a Leslie Lohman Museum Artist Fellow. A former Artist-in-Residence at the Flux Factory, Muse was also a 2018 Artist-in-Residence at the ARoS Museum in Denmark. Muse has shown work at The Shed, Lincoln Center, The DC Arts Center, and The Flux Factory. Through their work, Muse hopes to create space for Black bodies to be free, if only for a frame.
