CORRINA MEHIEL FELLOWSHIP

S.O.U.R.C.E. Studio launched the inaugural Corrina Mehiel Fellowship in 2020 as an annual award to support women and non-binary artists engaged in pressing social issues, specifically those who offer alternate visions and meaningful interactions through their creative practices. Given in the name and spirit of the late artist Corrina Mehiel, steering away from being project-driven, the purpose of the Fellowship is to allow time and space for an artist to reflect and evolve their creative practice, develop ideas and engage opportunities.

Artists are given an unrestricted award of $10,000 plus support from S.O.U.R.C.E. Studio. Working with individual artists we co-create a program of support that meets their specific needs during the duration of the fellowship. This comes in the form of unrestricted funds, outside expertise, retreats and brokered conversations for further investigation, learning, and documentation. Participation is individualized, intimate, and collaborative where experimenting, mutual exchange, and learning is prioritized.

about Corrina Mehiel

Corrina Mehiel was a socially-engaged artist, educator and creative producer who created work and connections across the country and around the world. Her passion for politics, art, teaching, and community engagement led her to work with artist Mel Chin and the Fundred Project team. Her life was prematurely cut short in violence. She was deeply loved by many friends, family and peers, many of whom helped to shape this inaugural Fellowship. Her generous spirit and commitment to socially-engaged art is the inspiration for the Corrina Mehiel Fellowship.
