THE Fundred Reserve gifted to the Brooklyn Museum – on view in NYC now!
S.O.U.R.C.E Studio is pleased to announce that the Fundred Reserve has been gifted to the Brooklyn Museum and will be on exhibition starting Friday, May 14, 2021.
Pictured above, the Fundred Reserve includes the nearly half-a-million, hand-drawn hundred dollar bills, or Fundreds, by children and adults from all across the United States, stacked on top of a hand-made pallet of silk, wood and bronze, and encased in a specially designed vitrine with a hand-carved sign reading, “By the people of the United States of America: Fundred Reserve,” The Fundred Reserve was first brought to Washington DC and presented to the public and national policymakers , from that, a short documentary titled, From Capitol to Capital: The Fundred Story, directed by Ben Premeaux, was created and will also be on view.
Artist Mel Chin conceived the Fundred Project in 2006. It has since grown into a collective art project spanning the entire country, engaging teachers and students, artists and arts organizations, and lead prevention experts and policymakers. Each of the half-million Fundreds is created and donated to the Fundred Project to represents the value of voices that seek an end to lead poisoning and safety for all.
The Fundred Reserve is included in Brooklyn Museum’s new show, The Slipstream: Reflection, Resilience, and Resistance in the Art of Our Time. The Slipstream opens May 14th, and is curated from more than 50 artworks in the collection. The exhibition explores themes rooted in our current times such as collective power, family ties, spiritual well-being, relationships to nature, and the simple rituals of daily life.
While the Fundred Reserve is now in the permanent collection of a major American museum where it will be taken care of and made available to the public, the Fundred Project is still active. S.O.U.R.C.E. Studio continues to collect Fundreds and advocate for funding and solutions to lead poisoning an more announcements about our activities are forthcoming.
