Over the long labor day weekend we gathered our 2024 Corrina Mehiel Fellows, Nancy Nowacek, Anna Tsouhlarakis, and Naoco Wowsugi — with a special guest appearance of our 2022 Fellow, brontë velez. Deep in the mountains of North Carolina, we made space for care and rest together.
The 2024 Corrina Mehiel Fellows retreat provided an opportunity for our artist Fellows to connect, reflect, and set the tone for the year ahead. Fellows shared presentations and discussions of their practice and intimate tours of Mel Chin’s studio and current projects. We also ventured out in the area, exploring Penland School of Craft, experiencing gong meditations with Lee Horsman, enjoying local swim holes — followed by cooking with Mel Chin.
S.O.U.R.C.E. Studio’s Corrina Mehiel Fellowship supports visionary artists with an unrestricted $10K grant and generative fellowship opportunities with the SOURCE network. The Fellowship honors our late colleague Corrina Mehiel’s spirit, artistry and commitment to social practice. The Fellowship is not project driven; the purpose, rather, is to support artists with financial resources and camaraderie, allowing time and space for an artist to develop ideas, research and for opportunities to arise. Participation is individualized, intimate, and collaborative where experimenting, mutual exchange, and learning is prioritized.
