CORRINA MEHIEL FELLOWSHIP

S.O.U.R.C.E. Studio’s Corrina Mehiel Fellowship supports visionary artists with an unrestricted $10K grant and generative fellowship opportunities with the SOURCE Studio network and artist Mel Chin.

The Fellowship is not project driven; the purpose, rather, is to support artists with financial resources and camaraderie, allowing time and space for an artist to develop ideas, research and for opportunities to arise. Participation is individualized, intimate, and collaborative where experimenting, mutual exchange, and learning is prioritized.

The Fellowship is continually evolving as it is shaped, informed, and embodied by each new artist we bring into our community. We honor our nimble network and seek out those whose process is embedded—who cultivate meaningful relationships and connections while engaging issues in their communities.

The Fellowship began as an award for women and non-binary artists, though we have expanded identity parameters. We prioritize artists who are emerging, have been historically under supported, underrecognized and/or operate outside of typical art world models, with the majority of recipients women, non-binary, LGBTQ, Black, BIPOC.

Awardees are nominated and selected by a distinguished group of former fellows, curators, artists, and culture makers. The nomination and application process is led by SOURCE, with participants being compensated for their time. The 2024 Corrina Mehiel Fellow selection committee included: Risa Puleo, curator; Prerana Reddy, cultural producer; Amy Rosenblum-Martín, curator; brontë velez, artist and 2022 Corrina Mehiel Fellow; and Amanda Wiles, director SOURCE Studio.

about Corrina Mehiel

Corrina Mehiel was a socially-engaged artist, educator and creative producer who created work and connections across the country and around the world. Her passion for politics, art, teaching, and community engagement led her to work with artist Mel Chin and the Fundred Project team. Her life was prematurely cut short in violence. She was deeply loved by many friends, family and peers, many of whom helped to shape this inaugural Fellowship. Her generous spirit and commitment to socially-engaged art is the inspiration for the Corrina Mehiel Fellowship.
